Re: Pre-Distilling question

Thanks for the response - sorry about the temperature reference.

Please close and delete this thread. I'll wait to post questions in the Novice Distillers section until I'm more knowledgeable and can provide clear concise questions.

Pre-Distilling question

Following what I have learned about evaporation/boiling temps of the various alcohols in "Fores" - that most steam vapors < 170 degrees is not good for you.... Is there merit in running the boiler at <170 degrees for a while and then attach the still/column/flute? What are your thoughts......

Re: Greetings - WA USA

Thanks for asking..... My objective is to learn how to make a whiskey. I've read tons from these forums which continues to be a wealth of information. Lessons learned: A refractor only works to measure sugar content of a mash when there is no alcohol present, a hydrometer is the tool to use. As far ...

Re: PH Testers

I've been using a Bluelab Pen for the past few weeks - it is so much easier than test strips that all look like the same shade of orange. No regrets.

Re: Enzymes sebstar- sebamyl

I used with Rice this weekend, worked amazingly well. 6 gallons water with a starting PH of 7.0 1 tablespoon Gypsum Bring water to boil and then add in 4kg of rice, I used short grain sushi rice because that is what I could buy in bulk. Simmer at boil for 20 minutes, stir frequently without getting ...

Re: Greetings - WA USA

I've read the entire site from top to bottom. Still learning and still here. Made my first noob mistake, which was to use a refractor to measure sugar levels in the mash rather then my hydrometer - a refractor only works when there in no alcohol present. Needles to say the refractor is no longer a p...

Thanks, expecting the letter, long decision between build vs. buy that went full circle. In the end it comes down to use, we have that covered with our essential oils exploration. Besides, we live on the river and our water source is a well - I'm tired of buying bottled water, time to make my own.
