Re: Quantity of Yeast
I started using an old down comforter my wife was gonna throw out. Folded in half (doubled over) and a few binder clips to hold it in place.

Read thru the Tried & True Recipe section for the grains you are using. There's a recipe for all of them and the ratio used.

oh, has anyone by chance found a way to speed the recipe up? my only criticism really......I know I know, you cant rush good art. You could take the off-set approach. Stagger out two or three ferments over a three or four day intervals. Then one will always be near ready or ready when you are and n...

Made a bit more progress. Got it mocked up and plate tree done. 184 - 1/16th" holes. Did some filp-flopping on down comers. Decided on the no-cups even though I made the cup type. I'll keep those in reserve.

Re: Plan of my new still, advice needed please.
Stop using soap to clean your rig after every run... It simply isn't needed and might be contributing to your ongoing smell issues... Your rig has already be steam cleaned by the time your run is done and all it should require is a hot rinse... Just rinse it and let it dry without worrying about wh...

Mold? Rinse it real good and flip it upside down to drain any excess water and let it air dry.Underground44 wrote:So there's no chance of mould when the boiler is left with water residue in it? That's my main concern

I am really struggling with plate lay out. Could you eyeball this template make a suggestion on it? I got 172 .062 holes and I had to fudge a few in to get that much. I had the cad guys at work cut out some copper wafer material to size so I could play with it and not screw up the actual copper plat...

Hey Rad, on the topic of marbles. When I played marbles there were three different sizes, pee-wee, normal and loggies. Would there be any benefit to mixing the different sizes, good or bad?

Re: Leaking fermenters, is this normal?
I wouldn't sweat it to much. If you really want to see what's going on, align a mark on the lid and on the bucket near the leak. Next ferment line them up and see if it happens in the same place again. There will always be slight deviations in molded plastic and you may just have been unlucky on thi...

+1 I have tried a few different ways and 5-6 months on oak is always the best for me for SF. Jar it on Memorial Day and open it on Labor Day.Bigbob wrote:It's going to be hard to make something good in just a week or so. Sweet feed needs a little time to age.
