Storage question

I have 2 oak (10l) barrels filled with rakia in my shed at the moment. Is it better to leave them outside in the Bulgarian winter (up to -20C), or move them inside?

Re: Siphoning hose

Is it advisable not to use plastic funnels for spirits? The contact time is very small.

Re: Still

I've noticed a distinct blue tinge in the lid of my still. The pot is a good colour.
Advice please.

Re: Still

It worked ok on the vinegar run.
It's 20l.
There is a tap and hose behind the blue condenser bucket.
I am thinking of replacing the heater with a ceramic one. Good idea?
How much wine should I use on the sac run, bearing in mind I have Scottish blood?

Re: Stripping run

Danespirit: Thank you very much for the very clear description. I had read many times the links above without understanding. Your article should be placed in the links.

Re: Stripping run

So, a stripping run involves removing 50ml and leaving the tails for the spirit run?

Re: Stripping run

My reading is going well thanks, Goblin. The science to distill safely is not easy.
My still is 20 litres. Is 50 ml too small?

Stripping run

I have made my first vinegar run- I am waiting to do my sac alcohol run, and need to post a photo.
When I do my first run proper, I want to separate each 50ml into glass jars. When I have done this, will I need to do a second run?

Re: Baking Soda

I spoiled a batch of wine- it turned to vinegar. My local wine lab recommended an alkali to add to the wash before distilling.
Your advice please.

Re: Hi

I bought a small pot still from the local market and am in the process of cleaning it.
I would love to make class whisky.

Hi

I'm an English man who lives in Bulgaria.
I have just collected my pear rakia from the local still. I have covered it with a coffee filter paper.
How long should I leave it?
