Re: My old cat made a double decade
cheers to Mouse the Impaler! My oldest cat at the moment is Lulu (full name Honolulu Whiteforest), who is 16. My Maine Coons live a quiet life insode the walls of our house, so I haven't got many stories to tell. Once I was starting to make fresh pasta, I had flour and eggs on the table, when Noè (L...

Re: Lost my favorite cat today
Hi Cranky, so sorry to hear about your loss. As a cat family member, I can understand how you feel. I felt the same when Napoleone, my Maine Coon child, left us one night when he was just nine. That was the reason I started distilling, and the ultimate reason I am here. Currenlty we are caring for L...

It's a nice idea, Tater. May I suggest Feburary the 6th: it is the feast of Saint Amandus, patron of beermakers and winemakers.

Will probably buy a used barrel, local store has 5 gallons used once for whisky at a decent price. That's correct. If you want to imitate a peated scotch whisky Islay style you must use used wood. Once or more used wood. Oak flavour must not overwhelm the peat and maltiness of your whisky, and new ...

yesterday I ran the stripping run on the new batch of UJSSM and started the second generation. This time I used corn for popcorn, that I cracked with my manual mill. I plan to do 9 generations with three spirit runs. I have been "idle" for more than one year, I'm happy to be on the run aga...

Yes Arbutus unedo, we call it "corbezzolo". They are very common in the mediterranean. Usually people make jelly with them. They can be fermented and distilled. There are a in Italy a couple of industrial brandies made with corbezzoli, but I never tasted them.

well, it sounds almost right. 3kg of flaked maize in 10 liters water, with 100% efficiency virtually produce a 10%ABV wash, with a little less than 1kg alcohol.
So the ratio 3-1 is theoretically feasible. Not in my house, though, not with 100% efficiency.

What a touching act, thank you for sharing, TD. Let me share with you "sa paradura" which is an old tradition still alive among Sardinian sheperds. (I cannot share news articles as they are all in italian) Whenever one sheperd loses his sheeps, which are his only way of supporting his fami...

I have my method too. It's time consuming but works very well. Take any hemorrhoid cream of your choice, and spread it carefully on the backs of the little pests. They die almost instantly! I have tried with toothpaste also, but it does not seem to work as well.

I used sweetener (Stevia) in my apple cider. It's the easiest way to obtain a sparkling sweet cider. But when I do a sweel liquor (limoncello, nutellotto) I always use real sugar, which in my corner of the world means white beet sugar.

As I work through this, maybe I am just fermenting the added sugar and bringing flavor over from the grain/backset, but my typical yield on the second run is similar to the first? I think you got it. As I understand it you don't do a proper mash the first time? please describe your process in detai...
