Hi everyone!
I'm planning to run a 25 liters (6.5 us gal.) malt wash in my 100 liters (26.5 gal.) pot still but I read several times that it will foam a lot (and maybe boil-over... ;-() My question is : if I use a 100 liters Pot still, the head space will be 75 liters (75%). Will it be sufficient?
Thank u!
malt wash : headspace, foam and boil-over...

That should be fine, just run with the proper amount of heat input if you are concerned. Don't try to really blow it out with high energy input.
I say should because I don't know all the parameters of your setup.

when i get that problem i cut the heat, wait a few mins, then start again more slowly.

salt doesn't really do a whole lot. a whole lot of salt seems to make it boil a little easier.Anonymous wrote:Not sure if it is true or not....but I have heard from a couple different old-timers that say to add some non-iodized salt to the wash when you put it in the still and it will help prevent foam.

well
adding salt should raise the boiling point, right?
