Mash strength calculation

Post by Virginia Gentleman »

My brain is not working this morning. Last night I took 8 gal. of mash @ 10% abv, and added 1.5 gal. feints @ ~40%. So now I've got 9.5 gal at what % abv? I know it's around 20% from temps and output of the run, but how do you do the calculation?

Grazie!

(8 x .1 + 1.5 x .4) / (8 + 1.5) = 14.7%

Ah, the simplicity!

Alcohol (divided) By Volume. Total amount of (100%) alcohol divided by total volume equals ABV.

Just finished the aforementioned run. Wish it was Sunday tomorrow.

'night.
