if you contact him though he will put you on his mailing list and send you ten or twelve bad fax humor forwards a week... most of which youve seen before.

You'll also be treated to a heaping helping of his particular brand of politics which you may or may not find charming.

On the positive side though... he's an extremely nice guy, and he goes by "the Colonel"... even his wife calls him "The Colonel".

You really just got to hand it to a guy who can pull that off.
No seriously.
Just to see how it would go over I announced to my wife the other day that from this time forward I would appreciate being referred to as "The Commandant". After several hours, when she stopped laughing for long enough to actually get off the floor she cordually invited me to spend the rest of the week sleeping on the couch.

I wanted to be call "Rear Admiral" but she keeps calling me "Butt Head". I guess it's a start!

Rear Admiral sounds a little too much like "master of buggery" to me.

OK... fourway gfave us the "up side" of that site.

Here is the down side: They sell extremely well made stills that operate too clean to be called "potstills", and they operate too dirty to be "reflux stills"

I honestly think they are beautiful, but detrimental to learnin' still operation.

My main objection to the designs he uses is the inclusion of a "bubbler"

Bubbler?

What do you mean by bubbler? A thumper/slobber box type unit?

Anyone have thoughts on the old post above? I'm close to putting down a deposit to have the Col. make me a gooseneck still, which I want to use to make whiskey and bourbon. Should I be concerned about it "operating too clean" which I take to mean that it creates too much seperation for a pot still, so it's hard to get the right amount of flavor in your product for a proper whiskey?

Here's the one I'm interested in:

it's just my opinion, but i do not like to use an overly efficient still for making whiskies. i have a 6 gallon still which will produce 192 proof, but i prefer my other still which normally won't give me much more than 168 proof to start. since whiskies are collected at less than 160 proof (80%), i find it to be about perfect. for a normal mash of about 8-10% the distillate starts emerging at about 162-164 proof in my whisky still.

I agree, Jesse, really want to go with lower proof for flavor. I guess my worry is that the one above will end up collecting at much higher than 164 proof. Probably need to get on the phone with Col. and see how effecient it is. He's also got more basic pot and bottle stills that might make more sense, and he'll customize as well.
