Water for a sugar wash

Post by guest »

I used RO filterd water for my first two washes that cost me $5.00 but Im cheep and poor. So I was wondering if I could use treated water from the municapal water supply. It's 4 miles round trip to city water and 30 miles round trip to good iron free spring water. The well water here isn't fit to shower in. There is some chlorine in the city water will that harm or stress the yeast (alcotec48). I suppose it could be run thru a brita pitcher to remove some of the chlorine.

What you have sounds as nasty as those poor bastards in Sydney. If I were you I'd chase down the cleanest water you can, and if the rains you get are not polluted from smog, then put in a rain tank. Only 10mm of fall over 150m.sq of roof will give 1500lt's of sweet clean rain. Very common in Australia to have rain tanks. Just feed off from the gutter downpipe. Good luck.

Leave the tap water standing open for 48hours to get rid of the chlorine without filtering, stirring it one in a while helps. I use our standard chlorinated ( and very hard ) tap water with no trouble at all.
