SG Not going down!
Hey, I am a little confused as to why the specific gravity of my batch is not going down. I used 4.5 kgs of inverted sugar and diluted that up to about 5 gallons, giving me a specific gravity reading of 1.080 with a temperature of 23C. I made a starter from this mash with 5g EC-1118 and let it go for two days. Plus, I added some EC-1118 I preserved from my previous batch when I finally pitched my starter. I think I have plenty of yeast. Anyways, everything is bubbling away just fine (using a 6 1/2 gallon carboy and a 2-piece airlock, it bubbles once every 10 seconds or so). Yet, it has been a week and the specific gravity hasnt dropped at all. Im just really confused!

I was always taught it's done when you get "dog heads " on it and was better to run a day early than a day late.linw wrote:With lots of bubbles in the wash you can't get an accurate hydrometer reading. As THM says, bubbles=fermenting! When it stops bubbling you will get an 'end' SG reading that means something.
