Quick question.... found alot of Kegs for $10 and bought a few and was wondering, I am using them to ferment in and when they get done could i just cook them right up or do I need to try to get the yeast out of my wash first before i cook....???

I assume you are going to use a gas burner so you would be frying the yeast to the bottom. That smell and taste will get into the spirit and it will be hard to get rid of. The boiler will be a mess to clean. I would transfer to a differant keg and leave the slug behing to cook.

I use propane and ss keg.I dont do anything but pour it in still.and i dont have any off tastes or burn anything to bottom of mine. However ya decide to do it I would add some 10 to 25 pices of copper to wash .I just toss in a hand full of 1 in long pices Ive cut off tubing. It will break the boil and help distribute heat as well. With propane youll be suprised how low ya cut it down to do run after bringing it up to temp.
I use a pot still.Sometimes with a thumper

I do the same kinda thing as Tater. I have a handfull of rocks in the bottom of my keg. I call em my magic rocks... without them you wouldn't get any booze
.
Tater do you ever notice when your getting close to the end of your run the rocks ( or in your case copper pieces) start to rattle when the alcohol volume starts dropping? This is my first tell tale sign to start watching for my tails cut.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

Counts on what Im running. On molasses washes I can hear a lite rattle from copper pices during whole run after reaching temp. That does get slightly louder tward end of wash.I figured it was due to same amount of heat going into less wash. But my fruit washes are on pulp and ya dont get a rattle.

Uncle Remus,
I think your rocks are truly magical because you found rocks that are just heavy enough to remain still during the lower energy boil, but just light enough to begin moving around as the wash boils a few degrees. Better hang on to those or even weigh them so you can duplicate the weight in some other material and sell them on eBay as magic boiling discs!

Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

I see the makings of a great fairy tale "Uncle Remus and his magic rocks". Elementary school children all over the world will hear of him. He'll be even bigger then "Jack and his magic beans"
. I am so jealous, I wish I had magic rocks.

That was me above. Here is my post sans spelling errors.
You should sell your magical hooch stones on Ebay. There's a sucker for anything and everything on Ebay.
