Using a refractometer to mesure sugar content

how would a refractometer go to mesure sugar content for brewing ...

Very simply, and quickly. You just put a drop on the plate, look through the lens and read the sugar content. It's based on the refractive index of the solution, which varies with sugar content.

but it would work ok to mesure sugar in a wash ...

Certainly, just be sure to buy the one for that purpose. You can also get them to measure alcohol content.

I know where i might be able to get my hands on a couple for a very cheep price..

ill give em a try first to make shore they have the right suger scale / range.

you can get them on ebay for around 40- 50 bucks. some distilling sites sell them for over 100$ so 50 bucks is pretty cheap.

Ive been thinking about grabbing a proof refractometer.... It would be pretty sweet to grab a few dropps off the output and know the abv instantly! Useing a hydrometer for cuts can be kinda annoying, especially when your learning a new still doing frequent checks.

I would heartily recommend it!!!
