if there is sugar left ?

Post by terryt »

Hi everyone - I'm in the process of brewing up my first batch of sugar. water and yeast, and I have a question - If my hydrometer - ( I think its called) shows there is still sugar left, but there has been very little change in the last few days, is there a way to get it going again ? Should I just use the mix the way it is ?

I'm getting a SG reading of 1.056 right now, and I believe I accidently added too much sugar when I first mixed up my batch. I started with a reading of 1.170. I am using some kind of turbo yeast, but I turfed the package when I first made the mix, so I don't even know what kind of yeast I used, except that it was in a blue package and had a picture of a rocket on it.

Also, after waiting 15 days, I added a brew belt yesterday to see if I could speed things up, but it hasn't made a lot of difference. The SG did go down about 0.002 since I added the belt yesterday. What do you guys figure ? Is there a way I can get it moving again ?

If its stuck from too great of a sugar concentration just split it into two fermenters and top up with water and it should take off again.

This happened to my beer once. For some reason it just stopped, and wouldn't restart (might have been too cold). What I did was mix up a little sugar in warm water and tip it in. Another thing you could try is adding a little yeast to the sugar and water, once that starts, chuck it into the fermenter.

or if your fermenter is large enough, ad water in that one, wait two days, and if it still does nothing, add yeast again.
the change of 0.002 because of the belt is propably not due to fermentation.
how does it taste? (sugar?)
