formula for calcuation of pot size on cont run.

Need to know the formula for the dimensions of the pot and column for continous run still. I have a column 1'x18' and need a pot, for the bottom to use with a 1000 watt burner. was considering a 500-1000ml flat bottom flask. Any suggestions on the tabletop still?

not exactly sure what you mean by a continuous run still.

Most of the designs I know of for continuous stills have no pot at all, unless they use a steam generator.

A coffey still preheats the wash with the outgoing vapor and pours the hot wash into a stand alone column with no pot at the bottom.

A shotgun or firecracker still is a column with a heat source in the bottom and a fresh wash inlet and spent wash outlet in the bottom of the column.

pretty much every true continuous design is a variation or simplification of the coffey still and using a pot wouldn't make a lot of sense because when you are replacing spent wash with fresh wash as it cooks you don't want a large reservoir.

I'm a little disappointed in your post Fourway. You didn't make mention of the fact that the still is 18 feet tall, one foot in diameter, and is going to be placed on a table top... ;-)

You can make a pretty functional coffey still on the back yard shed scale... possibly small enough to use in a kitchen.
You'd probably need to use open packing instead of trays... or maybe wads of packing seperated by trays but I bet you could do it.

Shotgun stills work fine though and they can be tiny.
