I use a five-gallon Hinkley Springs water bottle for my large fermentor. I haven't had any problems with it. Mostly the alcohol levels are so low during fermentation, they should be safe with plastic.

i could be wrong in this but i think there marked as PET and a lot of the home brew shops sell a 1 gallon PET plastic starter kit so u should be ok, personaly i wont re-use a plastic fermenter to many times tho (could just be me being over cautious)

PET is plastic #1.

If yours is #7, it isn't the same.

All my primary fermenters are plastic. A couple are big grey garbage cans. I've never had any problems with fermentation. I usually transfer the wort after most of the fermentation is overwith into carboys to finish and clear up before distilling. You just have to be anal about cleaning and sterilizing them well before use.

I use regular 5 & 7 gallon buckets, 15 gallon blue plastic water barrels.

Oh...to have enough space that I could ferment wine in a plastic garbage can. How many gallons does that hold?

you can get 55 gallon drums in plastic. I think 33 gal is the biggest garbage can.
If it was easy everybody would do it.
