I NEED HELP!!

Post by crackher »

I have read read and re-read the homedistiller section on distiling a wash. This is what I am doing

Using a Turbo Yeast from Still Spirits
20L of Natural Spring Water (from bottles)
I let the wash settle for ~2 weeks siphoned the clear stuff and let it settle again,
made a flour and water gasket

The Still
S.S. Beer Keg (cleaned several times)
Propane burner
40" Reflux Column Valved type
S.S. "Probe" digital type thermometer, held in place by a cork at the top of the column
Oh ya Column is made of copper (2")
3" condensor
Ice water running through a pump into the condensor to cool the vapor

2:08 placed wash in pot
2:34 first sign of vapor at the top of the condensor turned on cooling
temp fluctuated around 77/78 degrees C and then i balanced the heat input with the cooling and it has stayed at 77 for ~ 45mins
I let the column run under flux reflux for ~10mins
Opened the offtake valve at 2:45
watched the drip and calibrated it to be ~1 drip/10secs

Problem

The distillate is cloudy, what am I doing wrong

The only thing I can think of is that I may have dropped some "dough" from the gasket in the wash. could this cause the clouding????

I am in the process of runing this as I write

I need help ASAP.

Thanks

One drip in ten seconds? That's really slow. It's a good idea to draw off the forshots slowly but even one drip per second is good. Is it all coming off cloudy or just the forshots. It wouldn't be that unusual for the forshots to come off cloudy or milky but it should clear up after that.

Did you clean all of the flux out of your rig ?
If it is flux, don't drink it.

Running water first is a good idea.

You may have flour paste in the product. If it is flour paste there is no big harm. If you plan top do a carbon filter/treatment, it can be removed in that step.
Hey guys!!! Watch this.... OUCH!
