question about vodka
I was wondering... if vodka is just a clean pure ethanol, how come people claim they can tell the difference between vodka that's made from rye, potatoes or plain sugar?

Really it depends on the strength that it is distilled to. Alot of vodka distilleries distill to a very high proof(stripping ALL the flavor) and then cut it to drinking strength.
You probably could easily tell the difference between the grains if it was distilled to 40%.

My sister had a bottle of this 18% abv cherry liquer, and on the back it says "made with molasses nuetral spirits" now...I know what that means, but apparently she doesn't. She told me..."try some, it's good...you can taste the molasses".

I tasted it , and it tasted like a thick wine.
