Taking foreshots, heads, and tails from a maceration

Post by kluivertfan2 »

If I make a maceration from everclear, do I need to draw off the foreshots, heads, and tails? Im thinking that since no additional fermentation is taking place, then fusel oils, and methyl alcohol are not a threat.
In case you need more info. I am making absinthe. Cutting 750 mL of everclear (95% pure) with 120mL of water to give me an 80-85% mixture. Soaking the flavoring herbs in that. Then distilling and coloring with another set of herbs.
Another question. After I make the maceration and let it sit, should I strain the herbs out? or should I distill it with the herbs still in it?
