copper and stainless??

Post by pothead »

If I made a stainless column, would it be ok to pack it with copper? Or would the 2 metals react negatively? If so, would it affect the spirit?

It would be optimal if you packed it with copper. No problem with the two metals reacting.

I wouldn't think that you would get any type of reaction in the time it takes to do a run. After a long period if the metals where not separated between runs I could see a problem. I'd just make sure and remove the packing after your run. It wouldn't be any different then packing a copper column with stainless scrubbers.

I've got a stainless steel column packed with copper and have had no problems at all. I just clean up with boiling water after I've finished cooking off a brew then remove the packing to let it dry. :D
