but if you use battery acid, bought in a shop, it will not have any Pb in it. it would be pritty stupid to get it out of your battery.
(and btw, almost all the lead will stay in your boiler.)
and lead sulfate is insoluble in water
and is that the really the info you'd like newbies (who often dont read carefully and are just skimming to get aquainted with the basics) to come away from the forum with? that lead is safe in your mash?
Personally I think it's sort of irresponsible to even bring up the subject of battery acid... but that's just me.

Let me clarify before you go off on me... I know you didn't "bring it up" what I mean is bring up battery acid in anything other than the direst warning terms...
at the point where you start saying "why not?" about clearly questionable matereals you are risking someone elses health.

Sure, it might stay in the boiler, but some people have mentioned using spent mash to dillute the final product.
Comercial bootleggers might not care about thier customers health.
But I'm not in that sort of league, I'm non comercial (drink it myself).
I use citrus products.
fourway, I agree with what you said.
people scanning the forums might misinterpret in info, but that's so with every subject and any kind of medium(a).
but I think it's a good idea too to ponder about such things. these forums are not a handbook with do's and don't's . and it does not mean I will use it or advise anyone to do so
I don't like: "don't. why not?. because!", i believe thinking about things is never bad, it's just a pitty some might misinterpret it.
everyone who's scanning this topic, read this post!!
don't use batery acid, or anyting containing lead. and please don't scan, read!!
Hey Guy's, I just wanted to point out that Ian Smiliy's book mentions using sulphuric acid(H2SO4) as a method of decreasing the ph of the mash. Personnelly, I would rather stick with either citric acid or just use backset. I like trying to keep it as organic as I can.
