ok the cuts.......
so what cuts do you guys use for whiskey?
i work in a bar and we have the old temp right system so every day in the morning we draw off about 1 ltr of beer and when the lines are cleaned it is about 5 litres o beer wasted,
now me being the frugal man i am thought "why not save this and make whiskey with it?" so i am i have a old keg in the cool room and we empty all the waste into it,
but what i was wondering is on the second distill what cuts do you guys use?
everything above 75% goes to feints then collect to about 58% or above and then whats left into feints?

Howdy absinthe.
Actually distilled beer will give ya Hop Schnapps, not whiskey.
And boy do ya need a love for hops to be able to drink it. Super hoppy beers are just about all I brew (IPA's and APA's) and I can't stand hop schnapps. I only know one guy that will drink it and we all think he's "over the rainbow".

i see i didn't think that much came over in it but i supose that would explain the funny smell in the stripping run..... although i have made a batch already and aged on some lightly toasted shards of oak i like it lol
and yeah im a hugh hop fan lol maybe i'll colour it and steep it with some more hops to add some aroma and hop flavor instead of just the bitterness that comes through lol

i took the keg and the base to my buddy yesterday to have him weld the stainless studs on and make the clips, he said he would have it done in a day or so, i'll try and get 'er cleaned up and have the little woman post some pictures.. she knows alot more about that than me... it kinda looks like some kind of rocket launcher, it's sweet..
i have'nt run anything yet, having too much fun building 'em..
had a combination mash ready and it turned to shit, (some of the pro's on here really busted by balls for that one, i deserved it ) gonna start a rum wash soon, i wanted this big boy to be ready for the rum..
i'll get some picts. soon........is there a special picture place or can they be put here ?? thanks, chuck

You'll have to upload your pictures to a site that will host the pictures.
http://www.photobucket.com is one such site.
I poked around on the stilldrinkin.com site and could not locate your pics...

There's something about a three inch column that gets my attention. QUICK
I guess that it might be the pile of copper that I have amassed and have plans for....

I just had to share this beauty...
This belongs to showrguy.

I apologize for derailing your thread absinthe. I too want to know how to utilize the beer that is wasted in your 'shop'. I see no reason that a good reflux still could not clean up your ummmm profit.

i'm glad ya like 'em guys, and thanks for posting the direct link, i'm not to swift with all this computer stuff..
both stills are brazed together, no solder, so there kinda bulletproof...
my brother in law does all the brazing, he likes to tinker in the garage...
he pretty much built the twin condenser one himself, i gave him some drawings and some measurements and some direction...thought he was just gonna try connecting the copper to stainless, he did that, and in no time he said "it's done".. it was...
it has a pair of T's at the top of each condenser w/plugs and unions at the bottom so it can easily be cleaned and inspected..
column height can be added also, that's the reason for the coupler near the bottom..
ahhh, i did a little bit of thinkin before we started to build..
thanks, chuck

lol thats ok all good, some nice stills you have there showrguy, and your right you can clean the brew up with a good reflux.
Thats what i did with it lol but its hard work.
I stripped it first and did a slow run, the problem it the smell of the hops get in the packing and boiler and is so dam hard to get out....
The packing i can clean in the dishwasher but as i am using the old keg unmodified at the moment i cant get me arm in it to clean it so i think i am gonna keep one just for the beer boiler for the time being
