Best wound coil

Post by pyrobrewer280 »

I saw a photo of a beautifully wound double coil (I have read hundreds of posts in the last week) and now cannot find it :( . If you have posted a coil photo take pity on me and point me to your post.
I would like to hear from others as to what they think the best pics are of coils they have seen or if not so pretty, proven good performers. At least they would then be all in one place.

I wound this coil around a piece of 2” copper. I used a spring bender and just kept twisting around. I think the key to the spring bender is a lot of lube. I used some wire pulling lube but dish detergent would work too. After I finished coiling I put a drill point screw through the end of the ¼” tube into the 2” pipe to hold it in place, then twisted it as tight as I could and put a screw through the other end. I took a few extra feet of the ¼” tubing and squashed it flat on a treadle hammer, a vise would work as well, and soldered it along the sides to every 3rd coil or so. The excess was folded over to hook it on the 3” pipe. When I was done, I removed the screws and slid it off of the 2” pipe, cut the ends back and finished with ¼” elbows. I used some extra pieces if the flattened tube to make standoffs to keep the coil centered in the pipe. The condenser is extremely ridged, and a bit overkill but it works nice.

What is the purpose for having a second condenser hooked to your take off point.

What is the controller box for? Is that what you use to regulate the element in your milk jug. If so that's a fine bit of work!

please excuse my ignorance but is that coil wound for the water flow or is it for the spirit? is it a double helix?

Water flow. The tubing is too small to use for spirit flow.

Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
