when I removed the grain after 4 days of ferm I was still bubbleing about 5 bubbles per minute
after removing grains and filtering out any suspended grains I was left with about 8 gallons of wash I left this to clear as long as I could @36 hours and siphoned this off into my boiler (15.5 gallon keg)
I stayed out of the yeast on the bottom best as I could so I had 6-7 gallons of wash in my boiler
I have a 1 1/2" colum 24" tall unpacked my lyne arm runs up at 45 degrees for 2' and is 3/4" dia it then angles down at 45 degrees for 4" with a 3" liebig condenser and is heated by a propane turkey fryer
here are my results
turned on at 10:00 am gas valve was only opened 1/4 turn
10:30 impatient opened gas to 1/2 turn
10:45 started to get drops backed off the gas to 1/4 turn
10:53 had collected 10oz of liquid and tossed out
11:00 1 pint @ 90 proof smells great and tastes like really stong stuff fruity smell

all collection was done by the pint and total time from start to finish was just over 2 hours
When I started to collect I turned the gas down so that it was barely opened to acheive just a trickle of product and had to turn it up once to maintain the trickle
my water started out at 50 degrees and was at 80 degrees when I finished it was around 20-30 gallons guess I'll use ice next time
I also screwed up and did notthink to check my temp of the distillant until almost complete and it was at 75 degrees
So how did I do?
Do you think I should have kept collecting?
The last couple really tasted like crap and I really couldn't get it to light after about the 60 proof mark (maybe i'm reading my hydrometer wrog I have never used 1 before it's a proof and tralle) when it read 90 proof the tralle scale said roughly 46
Any comments are welcome I tried to run it slower but the gas would turn off
Thanks JD
