Distill now or Wait?

Post by Reptile1 »

My first grain mash went on Thursday, after mashing and sparging I managed to get an OG of 1050.Now after 4 days the gravity is 1000 and it continues to bubble away nicely.

The is a peat malted barley wash for whiskey which I will be aging in oak!

I have read several different opinions on when to distil some say while its still fermenting while others say wait and let the wash settle or even clear.

Distil now or wait?

Personally I always let em at least finish fermenting. Letting it clear is a good idea, but when the fermenting is finished, put your wash somewhere where is is cool, it will clear faster.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
