you don't want (much of) a column while doing an extraction. it might be less efficient then a potstill, but it might work

Hi Wolfgang,

You might want to buy Essential Oils by Julia Lawless that that includes a diagram for an extraction stilll.

Cheers,

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart!

I don't think a reflux still will work for extracting essential oils. You need a simple pot still.

Yes it should work, but depends what kinds of oils, and what medium you use.

you might find that yo will need to clean it(still+packing) really good before using your rig for other purposes. The oils of some spices are hard to remove.

I have done cinamon and juniper berries, but in a simple wok style still....mainly because my potstill was overly large for the small batches I wanted to do.
Hey guys!!! Watch this.... OUCH!

The answer is yes if you were to remove the packing and basically turn it into a pot still, howver personally I would make anotherpot style column to simply clip onto the boiler in place of the reflux column. If you contact Still Spirits I'm sure thy could do one for you at a reasonable cost.

A very knowledgable friend of mine told me told me that the reflux column on his still spirits still can be bypassed. His is from the 80's so it may be different than the ones still spirits is selling today.

I have the 25 Litre Reflux still from Still Spirits which looks exactly like the Essential Oil Extractor still they have here:

http://www.stillspirits.com/webfiles/St ... ctions.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

It says that you can bypass the reflux column on the still by simply changing some of the hosing around.

I'm guessing you would still need to take some/all the packing out as well.

Anyone know if this still is the same as the regular 25L reflux still and if this would work?
