Nut liquers - clearing

Post by Watershed »

Did a batch of hazelnut liquer a while back - steeping roasted nuts in neutral spirit and adding sugar syrup.

It's cloudy, not a problem for flavour and I know the cloudiness is due to oils from the nuts but is there anything I can do to clear it for presentation purposes - It's been filtered several times.

All I can think is chuck in high proof neutral until the oils go fully into solution.

You could try chilling and then filtering one more time

I hadn't thought of chilling - it's worth a try and it's going to be walnut season soon...
cheers

Would macadamia nuts go alright as a flavouring agent?

We own a macadamia nut orchard, plenty to waste.

I drank macadamia nut liquor in Hawaii, it's excellent....do some experimenting.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
