emoticons addition

Post by bushido »

I noticed a nice emoticons addition on another web site a couple of days ago where you can pick a smilie for your mood every time you log on, eg., happy, sad, drunk, bored, etc.
Would y'all be interested in having it on this board?
If so, let me know, I will have the ol' lady code it and pass it to the admins to have a look at.

I don't know if that's how it's referred to on a wider level, but I've noticed on a number of occasions when someone is PUI (posting under the influence) they'll remark that we need a "tipsy emoticon". You could call it a "hammered", "drunk", "sloshed", "pissed" - pommie english ;) "loaded", whatever...

My ol' lady designs web pages for large companies. Can program in about 8 computer languages I think. If the admins want it, I will make sure they get it.

adding and removing emoticons is built into the phpbb administrators interface already. All the admin has to do is put the gif's in the proper directory and add them using the preprogrammed interface. No work necessary for a programmer, designer. It has all been done. I am sure you could just e-mail the files and what tag to use and it could be added easily.
I changed all the emoticons on my forum.

yes, it is not difficult to do, unless this is was a free site (it is not), then you don't have access to the data base.

No you are right. It is not a free site and a good thing too. If it were free then so many people would treat it just like IRC.
The person who runs the site and maintains the site needs a lot of respect because it is a hard job jeeping out all the spam posters and bashers, noob jumpers and the like. Not to mention whenever there is a table out of wack, then it seems like everyone's your boss. When truth be told this site costs a lot of people behind it real time, real money and real hard work.

What I suggesting was, e-mail your new emoticons to the admin. He can add them. Only he can add them. Maybe if you ask nicely and and they are of good merit, then it is possible.

I'm still fairly new here. I have seen on other forums for various things I do- the site admin sets up a paypal "Tip Jar" so its possible for forum subscribers to tip the admin guys!

I would gladly contribute 5-10 bucks a month here for the admins hard work, time, money, etc....
