I found this place a few weeks back and have been lurking ever since. Figure it's about time I introduce myself and let y'all know I'm here.
It's my plan to build a pot still and as it turns out it may not be as simple as I thought so I'll have a lot of stupid questions to ask. For openers, I have a 2 1/2 gallon copper pot with a lid but it has what I think is a tin liner. Would it still be safe to use it or do I need to find a pot w/o a liner?
Ironically I don't drink so I'll probably only make a little every year and give it away at Christmas. With that in mind I won't need a large still or a fancy one but I'd still like to make something halfway decent and not like the nasty potato mash I had as a teenager.
Part of the inspiration for building a still is clean water. I live between New Orleans and Baton Rouge and there's a period of time after hurricanes that drinking water is in short supply so I figure I can kill two birds with one stone here.
I did note that there are a few old car owners here and I'll be one more. I have a 1926 Chevy roadster that's original and running but not restored. I'm still tinkering with the mechanics of it before I go on to body work and the interior.
That's enough for now, if there's anything else y'all want to know feel free toask away.
