What about these for storage?

Post by tracker0945 »

I have had these sitting out on my balcony for the last few years and just had a thought that they may be OK for spirit storage.
The small one is probably about 1 gall in size and is branded with a hotel name, so most probably was originally sold full of wine.
The larger one was used for the storage of acid at a gold mine but I would imagine with a diligent clean and flush, should be able to be cleaned.
Otherwise, if they are not suitable, I might have to investigate Ebay as I just Googled Taits Masonic Hotel and the only thing that came up was a Hotel built in Broken Hill in 1888. Perhaps it may be worth a $ or 2?
What do you all think?

Given their age, they may well have lead in the glazing (if they are glazed on the inside).
Be safe.
Be discreet.
And have fun.

Put em on ebay, tracker. Do a previous listings search and a little bit of research. If they have makers stamps and other identifying hallmarks they are worth a packet.

Hey Tracker, looks like you could cut ya gums up pretty bad drinkin' outta that smaller one

Seriously though, I reckon they'd be worth plenty on ebay. Sell 'em and get a wooden keg.

I'd have to agree. A collector would give a decent amount for them ... depending on what they're worth (no clue.) And then go for the keg!

:P

Thanks for the tips.
Ebay sounds good but first I would have to have it sanctioned by SHMBO and that could be difficult as she has a bit if a liking for them.

I find the best time to have sanctions approved is right after" This is great do you have more of this one." I usually start with" I do but I need to...."

Sounds like you're starting trade talks amongst countries.
