Melbourne Cup
The race that stops the nation is upon us again.....I haven't gone out on a limb with my bets. I went the quinella with Master o'reilly and Purple moon. I put a little each way on Princess coup. I probably would have been better buying $30 worth of sugar!

It is most absurdly said, in popular language, of any man, that he is disguised in liquor; for, on the contrary, most men are disguised by sobriety. ~Thomas de Quincy, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater, 1856

I was barman at the local RSL sub branch and got number 20 in the sweep - I think it's still running - and watched members get pissed. Shit, some of them drink a lot!!!!!
After that I went to a mates place in town and proceeded to have an ale or two myself. I was most successful in this endeavour and fortunately my wife was there to drive me home.
Tonight is Rock and Roll night at the Mechanics Institute Hall. I hope I can keep up the pace.
