Wow. Exhaustion is about gone after 20 hours of sleep.

Yesterday was the first day of a 3 day deer hunt I participate in each year. It is a pop control hunt at one of the nature associations. I hauled out my tree lounge, and cart yesterday morn, about 6:00, and treked about 2.5 miles up the bank of the Missouri river just north of town. Popped a decent doe, and then a second decent doe about 8:30, then about 9:30, and really big doe came sneaking through, and I got her also. Spent a couple hours field dressing and dragging those three about 150 to 250 yards over all sorts of downfalls, to get them to the trail. Of course, that big doe went down furthest from the trail, in a swarm or downfalls. She went almost 180lb dressed, and dragging her to the trail about killed me. Then that lovely 2.5 mile trek out with almost 400 lb of deer. By the time I got back home, it was almost 2:00 pm. All I could do is simply drag the deer into my garage, go inside, and strip off my clothes, and literally pass out. Other than waking up a few times with leg cramps, I slept pretty much straight though til this morning.

However, now I feel a hell of a lot better. Now, I only have to process 3 deer, wash up some bloody hunting gear/clothes, and get enough rest to go out and do it all over again on Sunday

I gotta lose some weight. Hauling my own 260 body out there is bad enough, even without hauling out the deer and the tree stand.

Husker,
make sure you don't take your wash outa the fridge to fit them critters in and forget about it........... again !!!!
that was a great and funny story..
oh, by the way, i have a really good jerkey recipe if you need one..
we don't have many deer left in Pa. on the public/state forest lands anymore.
last year 4 of us were bear hunting and only one guy saw one deer, that's bad..
oh, also, maybe ya aughta hunt a little closer to your truck, 2 1/2 miles is a hike even if it is flat...

yer not gonna freakin beleive this..
i just went to get it, it was in the pantry in a box with all my jerkey making stuff.......... the box is gone, the stuff is there, but no box, and no recipe ????????
so after just having a mini flipout attack, the little woman is desperately searching for where she put it !!!!!
she claims that she did'nt throw it out, for sure..
so i'll have to get back to ya on that, i hope...........

Have a really huge 12 pointer, extremely dark in color, seen almost every day. Mon. is opening day here. Will let my son and some of his friends open the ball game. I'm no longer interested in bragging rights, but like Husker, doe and young spikes of size are much better eating. That old bugger would be as tough and stingy as me.

Had a huge bull Elk cross the farm last Jan. Just before sundown. See bear often, as the NFS adjoining and above us is bear sanctuary.

Have had over a thousand ducks and geese on our acre pond as a layover on their flight south. Catch snapping turtles non stop with milk jugs and bait. give them away to neighbors that just love them. 7 meats, so they say. I'll stick to soft shelled. Coyotes and feral cats have decimated my quail population, but have over 200 turkeys roaming at times. Especially when I am cutting hay, and they run out for the grasshopper feast.

Anyone have a distess call, cd or such for coyotes. I mostly hunt them and poachers. I would hate to use the traditional get rid of them methods, as other animals also get involved, dogs, bears etc.

Also understand their hides are very warm if properly cured.-coyotes.

Back out for day #2. Heard from the wife (who is upstate at a wedding yesterday), that the hubby of the girlfriend she was staying at, has lost his hunting spot, so they want a deer also.

I was jut gonna get 1 (or 2 if the first one was a little on the small side). Now it looks like 2 or 3. If I get 3 again, I am gonna see if I can get one of the park guys to drive the gator out and pick me (and the deer) up. That dam hike out with 3 deer almost killed me. I am too out of shape for that, since all I do is spend 10-14 hours a day looking at a CRT. I have visions of Office Space dancing in my head, and need to find an occupational therapist to keel over dead during a session

Wish me luck (well, there should be enough deer that luck does not play much part in it

hehe, I survived today. Got 2 of them. One was medium sized, and the other was about the size of my fat schnauzer

Combined weight was probably less than the big one I got Friday. It certainly was much easier getting them carted out, and that was with my tree stand on the cart also this time.

I got enough energy to actually process the lot of them tonite

Only got a little processing done the other day.

mtn walker them coyote are worth $75 down here if they alive. they run them with fox dogs. more coyotes than fox.

You're right Goose- they have turned some of them or thier cousens loose here also. The Elk they introduced here, and protect almost everyone with a radio collar, have eaten the forest and fields so clean, they are looking at hard times, and the deer which were very populous years ago have all moved away. Had a big bull on the farm last winter.

It would be nicer to have controlled hunts than bring in a bunch of feral dogs, coyotes, foxes and wolves.

Feller got threatened with arrest last year, for shooting a rattlesnake coiled to strike his girlfriend who froze in fear. Some things are getting confused.

aint no closed season on coyots or feral dogs.

turn in a claim to gov for damage by elk or wolfs
an while on line ask em bout perdation permit youll get your money
quicker. get pictures of elk or wolf cause they gonna say it aint so.

im kinda partal to wolfs
