G'day
Someone just gave me this:
Aint she a beauty!? What should I do with it?
Seems to me I should make booze and fill it up.
Seriously, the hole in the front is about 5/16 in dia. How can I fit a tap in there? & what kind would work?

I would never use old crockery without knowing absolutely what had been in it or if it had been made with a glaze containing lead. Keep it as a curio or a flower vase.

If the glaze is on the outside only, would any lead content still be an issue?

Itis glazed on the inside and I hear it used to contain port wine. How old would it need to be to have lead based glaze

Yeah, a lot of old crockery was glazed with lead glaze. I wouldn't take a chance. A better use, is to fix it up nice and use it as a decoration.
cheers

Seems a damn shame to spend all that time to make something so pretty, then put it in a bottle you can't see through

And see how much is left, so you can go get another before it runs out.

I bow to the collected wisdom. It will become some sort of vase or something. Maybe i'll start throwing foreshots in it and serve them up to unwanted guests
