rum aging

Post by violentblue »

if my rum has a bitter taste to it, is there any way to salvage it?

would it make sence to carbon filter it to a more neutral state, or just let it age and see what becomes of it?

speaking personally I'd redistill it if you're that unhappy with the flavor.

pretty hard to say what you should do...

redistilling will mellow things out a lot,

Age helps more than anything I have tried. Leave it alone for a couple months and see how it changes. 6 months it will be very different... I just tried some not so good rum that has aged 9 months and its good now... much more mellow and smooth.

still is gone, gave it to my stepdad, so redistilling it isn't an option. I'll let it sit for 6 months or so the revisit it.

Its hard to over oak a heavy rum so I would use more oak. Some of those flavors will mellow or go away with lots of oak and some age.You have to make your cuts right to get a good flavor, but aging time will always help.
I would just put it up for a year since you cant rerun it.

grate way to fill bottles You can get parts four carbenating beer.
