Is molasses (feed store grade) supposed to be oily as hell?
Sure, it fermented like a sum'bitch. Blew thru, and out of 2 airlocks... I stuck the molasses tainted airlocks in my "Jug o' cleaning vodka" to clean them up... "Slickery" slime everywhere. Hot water rinse, same effect. I'm gonna abandon my jug and all parts in it, waaaayyy too tough to clean.
Just a little on the hands... scrubbed and rinsed with detergent (twice) still leaves a slick feeling on my fingers.
Is molasses s'posed to suck to work with, or what the hell did I get? It sure SMELLS like molasses.
Do I dare run the wash? Do I risk getting oily stuff everywhere? I don't dare dedicate another demijohn for molasses. Tho I still have a few gallons left..
Is molasses supposed to be like this, or What The Hell did I get, that is purported to be molasses.
Thanks.

So no one else has said anything so it thought that I'd hop in... You definitely have the antichrist of molasses. Mine are people food grad though, appear to have very little oil in them. Ferment after adding a few nutrients without any problem, and clean out of my fermenter's with a little warm water.
I seem to be some what confused. What did you mix with your molasses? How much of each? Water, sugar, nutrients, etc.
Whelp, I'd read that molasses didn't need nutrients, so I pretty much used 1 gallon molasses and 5 pounds of sugar (perhaps a bit more) with enough well water to leave a gallon of headspace in a 6 1/2 gallon carboy. Red Star wine yeast.
Violent ferment :-)
Just sooo very greasy. I've never seen any type of grease as greasy as this stuff.
Like I said, I've given up on saving my molasses tainted airlocks and bungs. And my favorite pickle jug. Not sure I want to use the wash, wondering if it'll screw up my reflux rig.

Not sure but molasses ferments fast and violently for me
If only the best birds sang, the woods would be silent.
