It's an impressive snow storm. Lots of snow up in our pine and fir trees. I lit off a pack of bottle rockets for avalanche control. Better safe than sorry.

i wonder what is a snow storm in california...
here to qualify as a snow storm it needs to be over 12" snow and high wind.
under that its just a regular winter day.
when we get over 2' in under 12hours then schools start to think about closing for the day(in case it doesn't stop there,they want to be sure they be able to send the students back home at the end of the day).

we got over a foot yesterday and our road isn't plowed. I live in the hills and when the roads get icy, cars get in trouble and roads become hazardous.

they got 4' or so at upper elevations.

here city's have fleets of plow,trucks and other snow vehicles plus all the sub contractor that have graders and truck capable of caring snow(some of them call it white gold i call it white sh**).

i would guess in a place like california a foot of snow would almost paralyze business.and the lack of snow tires that would make road really dangerous.

a funny fact i know is here car battery are rated for # of amp at -30 and battery rating in califonia is # of amp at +30(about 90f) or something near.

up where I live snow is common. most people have 4x4 and/or chains, generators, propane and so on.

lots of California is mountains with huge amounts of snowfall. What really causes havok is when visibility gets down to zero on the valley floor due to fog. One time driving home from work I had to stop and walk up to the street signs to read where I was. Then I "stopped" for a red light as soon as I saw it - which was about 10' into the intersection.

but then again mountain makes weather real weird sometimes.

its like the desert on the other side of the mountains... right ?

right under alaska we have british columbia, where there is a few city on the eastern side with a much warmer climate then a lot of others at the same latitude.

You're lucky Jessie, where I live there are few stoplights(maybe 4 in town)and forget streetlights in our neck of the woods. We do, however have street signs Living in the Smoky Mtns. is just fine though.But a foot of snow? not here bro

California really does have all climates. Yes there are deserts in the south east part of the state. The Sierra Nevada range runs north/south in the eastern part of the State and gets a lot of snow. Lake Tahoe, for instance, is only about 6,000 feet elevation but gets plenty of snow and has lots of ski areas. Just north of that is where the Donner party spent their horrifying winter in the snow. Up north we have Mt. Shasta which had avalanche warnings about 5,000 feet during the last storm.

i worked in a tee shirt today we been real cold in the "carolinas" this year and the past few warm days are nice. winter ain't nearly done yet.

We are in a heat wave - upper 70's and have all the windows and doors open and the attic fan is on for a breeze in the house. Went outside to work in the garden and about had a heat stroke - great weather for February - next week who knows though.

I'm out hanging off the welder again today 8' X 3' steel workbench with a 2" hardwood top for the new distilling shed. Then i gotta build a rolling frame for my milling table so i can wheel it round the shed for a mobile workbench.

Inskip, CA is about 15 miles and 2,000 feet up the hill from me. It's a very small ghost town, 3 people live there and it's the end of the pavement before going offroad into the Lassen National Forest. Great hunting, 4x4, fishing etc. areas.

Anyway, they've got 6' of snow on the ground! Quite a lot from 2 storms. They're hoping to have it cleared today so folks can go enjoy some snowmobile action this weekend. They're using tractors to handle it.
