I'm havin' a really nice day.
Today is the third day in a row to reach, or get close to, 70 degrees F! That's unseasonably warm for here.
I fired up the charcoal for the smoker this mornin'. I'm smokin' some pork ribs, and I got a huge slab of salmon to go in the smoker with the ribs in a while. I'm usin' a mix of hickory and pear for the smoke woods.
I've been layin' around in the backyard enjoyin' the smell from the smoker and slowly workin' through a growler of IPA from a local brewpub. The wildlife is so happy about the warmth that they are ignorin' me and my three dogs layin' around in the backyard. I got to see a bunch of doves in my pear tree and a type of woodpecker I've never seen before. It was a small grey and black striped bird with a crescent behind it's eyes. I'll have to look it up in the birds of the southwest book this evenin'.
I wish ya'll as good a day.
:D

There seems to be a road block of all the cars running out of gas, as all the gas stations are out of fuel, from all the cars headed south to your place. Better toss on some more ribs for those that get through.
You can't dangle a rib in front of a desperate dog and keep your fingers.
But at least enjoy it for us all, and tip one and eat an extra rib for the rest of us.

Today Rocked!
This mornin' I fired the hornito in my back yard with firewood and was drinkin' home roasted coffee with two friends not long after the sun was risin' over the mountains. It took a good 2.5 hrs to get it all up to temp, then we had a good 3 hrs to share recipes, techniques, and bake bread.
The early mornin' was spent close to the hornito, and it's warmth, but it started to warm up early. By late mornin' it was T-shirt weather and we each had a growler of micro-brew.
Once the bakin' was done we built up the fire again to get ready for lunch. Once the hornito was good and hot we made a pizza and tossed it in. The Martinis started with lunch.
The afternoon was a blur of Martinis, Salty Dogs, and tryin' to convince ourselves that weren't too drunk to be able to taste and smell all the herbs from Marta's garden.
My friends got picked up and given safe rides home late this afternoon by their significant others. I made and ate supper his evenin' and then my wife got home from school. Now I'm sittin' here lookin' at some TV with my wife sippin' at the last of my Miracle Rum. It's gettin' hard to stay awake. Damn good day.

Days like that are truly outstanding and unfortunately all too damned rare - thanks for sharing, it brings back some similar memories (one in particular of a long summer day by a river way back in the Alaskan wilderness eating fresh caught and fire roasted trout with two of my best friends and drinking wine from wineskins) and has improved my own day today.theholymackerel wrote:Today Rocked!

Mackerel...sounds great. I can't wait to get out the smokers for some long, slow pork shoulder. I assume a "hornito" is an outdoor wood fired oven. I'd like to try that. Right now the only outdoor bread I do is corn bread or biscuits in the camp dutch oven.
Temp today here as 64 with sunny skies, but rain predicted tomorrow.
