Ain't heard of ramps. Maybe it's just a regional thing. A little bit of description would be nice.
"If you can't dazzle them with brilliance... baffle them with bullshit."
"Don't steal. The government hates competition."
"Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see"

That sounds naughty!

Goose, Ain't nothing like poke. Especially when mixed with a few mustard greens. Got a woods full of them. Ain't no use for anybody to go hungry in the US.

Dutchman,

Actually ramps are a wild leek that grows in the Appalachians. Maybe elsewhere, I don't know.
They are very strong like supercharged garlic and you have to just about cook them outside. They are potent for sure!

The traditional way is to cook them with scrambled eggs.

I think in some areas they are a protected species but Dooley has kin that send him a bunch every year. Of course, his family ain't never been one for following the law

Some places in Tenn, VA and West VA have ramp festivals every year.
Kind of like hot peppers, you like them or you don't.

It's one of them thangs you don't know until you try it.

I was blinded by the fumes the first time Dooley cooked some at a picking session but after I tasted them it was like "where have these things been all my life". I love them.

I ordered some seed and tried to grow them here but I think its too warm in the winter. They need so many hours of freeze to propagate. North Ga in the mountains is about as far south as they get. Maybe if I put the seed in the freezer for a couple of weeks before I planted may have worked.

It's ramp season here upstate NY. Got to try them once and they were good, but my intestines were less than happy about the experience. So I lay off 'em now. Let others have the bounty.

I gets tired of winter here long about the end of April. Some years I head down to Bland Co Virgina and a buddy of mine from there and we go down to east Tennesse to look at bear dogs. Always come home with a big bag of Ramps. It's definatly a regional thing and an aquired taste.
I couldn't make it this year--just got outta the hospital--had a little stroke--looks like I'm gonna make it though.
