What commercial whiskey do you hate the most?

What commercial whiskey (not wine, not liquer, not brandy) do you dislike, detest the most, and why?
What taste notes do you notice?

For me....the answer is clear.

Lord Calvert - Canadian Whiskey

Even in small quantities, capable of producing the most heinous hangover ever imagined. And the taste is like some nasty heads off of a run. Split a pint with a friend one night, drank nothing else, and had the "hard to walk" hangover the next day. Never again.

Explanation: For the sake of getting the most quantity out of a run, I think they make the widest possible cuts, age it a little, then blend the nasty stuff together to ...."what not tastes good, but the least bad," for each blend. I really believe that too.

Seagrams or something I just picked up on special called Corner Creek. It is a bourbon whiskey I got for $13 though it was priced at $30 and let me tell you that I wouldn't pay $5 for it the next time.

Another vote for the Seagram's 7. I gag when I smell it now. Back when I started, my goal was to make something that tasted like Seagram's or better. I now realize how low I set the bar for myself!

Personally I hate all bourbons and whiskeys. But I must say, southern comfort (the high proof stuff) and red bull 1:2 ratio go together very very well.

The thing I hate most about Scomfort is that it is simply too easy to drink. Many a day in my late teens, early 20's, I would sit down at a quarters table about 9pm with a liter of comfort, and then shortly after 11:30pm, it would magically be 1:30 in the afternoon the next day. Not that I stopped drinking (or even left the quarters table before 2:00 am), but any memory of the night, drained out with the bottle.

Today, I despise 90% of the commercial whiskeys. About 3 or 4 drinks, and I end up with a hell of a headache. Does not matter if it is beam, jack, some canadian swill, it really does not matter, I end up with a hang over.

Crow, granddad, knob creek, Roses, are all things which I have had over the last year or so, and did not get much headache from. The crow and granddad, were bottled back in the early 90's (the bottle I shared), I have not had any of a "recent" batch.

Makers mark is borderline. I can have a few of it, and "usually" do fine, but not always. I wonder if they have some quality control issues, and some batches are better than others.

SC is pretty bad. Corner Creek is also pretty rotten. I picked up a bottle of whiskey when I was in La. Can't recall the name, square bottle, black label... not cheap, but horrible. Wish I could recall the name...

On second thought I'm with Tater. All of them.

Now I just need to make some of my own. I have my second batch of UJSM bubbling now. It it turns out anything like my BWSW then I'll be in business.

After drinking Martini's with the harts of my neutral run I can only imagine how good the whiskey you guys talk about is.

You guys think southern comfort is bad, we used to have SC clone called "Mississippi Moonshine", it was far,far worse than it's original. As for my worst hangover in a while, it was on a 5th of Jim Beam Rye.....it has a yellow label. I had never seen it before so I thought I'd drop the $30 odd bucks, I wish I had of spent it on sugar!

Made the mistake of tasting some foreshots once, if you throw in some tails with it...tastes just like cuervo. I advise against ingesting both.

I'd have to say Black Velvet. Reason being when I was it high school the stuff was a cheap drunk. We used to buy a fifth of that stuff and a case of the Beast for a little over 10 -12 bucks The smell of the stuff now makes me sick.

Most hated whiskey almost all Southern Comfort leading JD, Crown,etc. The only one I will buy and I must say like very well is a product outta Loretto,Ky called Makers Mark ! Shit I can drink this anytime of the day and so far never had a bad batch.
