IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Don't want to scare people and stampede the cattle, but this is important info that you all need to be aware of and understand the possible consequences for the long term future of this forum. It only applies to the UK for now, but eventually it will probably affect most of us on here, one way or another. So we need to be prepared for it.
MODERATORS: I posted this not to start a political discussion about the rights and wrongs of such policies, but so everybody here is warned well in advance. If it is inappropriate, then don't hesitate to pull it, and my apologies for posting it. But I think you will agree that this is something we all need to know about.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
I used to say "Big Brother" as an obsuerd comparison. I haven't used that term for several years now, it's just to close to reality for my taste.
Big problems with a central data base (like the artical siad), big time security problems and such. A central data base would, no dout, be a mager magnet for hacking attacks. It would be impossable to secure and still be able to monitor at the same time. To many lines in and out. Big messieness. And that is ignoring the fact that it's rong to do in the first place.
Never traid freedoms for security...ever
On the plus side, people would learn how to mask there IP's real quick
...just sayin'

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
this has been happening in one form or another since some D@#Ks came up with taxes and somone invented ink, and now with computers well..
but just to excite the paranoid mind, evry time you enter or place your name/ correct details on parchments of papper or Electronic forms, regardles if its to win a years fuel, apply for a lone, fill out application to rent property, apply for phone or internet you can be assured that 11 times out of ten your details have been entered into some financial institutions data base so some indian call center can call you to sell you stuff in a language or accent you dont understand or the sherif to come knocing on your dooe to collect money you owe from 10 years ago.
the best way to work around this is not to avoid these competitions but to enter them were possible with partial correct information and the rest fake.
when filling it out try and use these charecters in the various field perticularly in the address fields , : " . < > also include extra spaces in between words.
this will screw up the data when they export and sell it, when the buyer trys to import it those charecters and spaces create errors.
So wrong information makes the data useless and unreliable..
now the goverment wants to get more into the act, well if evryone avoids questionable sites we are doing is filtering the data for them.
We need to give them more fake data.
anyway all this information will do is point out to the English government that the whole of England are a bunch of PERVS.
to mask your IP google "free public proxy servers" or "free public proxy list" etc..
now what do you do with this?
in your controll panel go to "Internet Options" in window that pops up click on tab at top "Conections", then at bottom click button Lan Settings.
on next window, put a tick in "use a proxy server for your lan"
now enter the IP address or url for proxy server as well as port, Click Apply and your done.
this mainly works for www browsing, but the proxy server may or will have logs so dont forget to change proxy servers regularly.
Enjoy..

There is no compulsion stronger than the one to have power over other people. This is another manifestation. If you can beat it back, then beat it back. But never think you have won.

It is the terrible, destructive delusion that everything can be controlled, and should be.Butch50 wrote:There is no compulsion stronger than the one to have power over other people. This is another manifestation. If you can beat it back, then beat it back. But never think you have won.
I think it was Nietzsche who said that we should be most wary of those in whom the urge to punish is strong.
At some point we are probably going to have to go to encryption and anonymising proxies.
And isn't it ironic that this is occurring in the country that gave us George Orwell, the author of the novel 1984 that first used the term 'big brother'?

Shit, I just noticed that I'm getting very close to 1000 posts. People will begin to think that I know what I'm talking about - and we all know that just isn't the case.

Uh oh. Looks like it is about to get a whole lot worse in Ozland too.
Wonder if distilling forums will be declared illegal?
Probably, if the rabid moralists and control freaks are allowed to get their way.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
My first post, hi to you all. The problem is most people in this and many other countries will trade freedom for gubmint security. Naturally we lose both freedom and security. The majority are lazy and go along with any safety measure that is imposed by the big nanny. Freedom is dying by a thousand cuts. Like the frog in the pot on the stove, it does not feel the temperature rising and thinks all is just fine while it is being slowly cooked.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
And it just keeps getting worse. (Comment 221, especially the second paragraph.)
If this goes through, then distilling forums are probably going to be on the list too. So if all us Ozzies suddenly stop posting here, you know why.
Problem in Australia, like in most countries, is there is no realistic alternative party to vote for. The conservatives are the only other party with any chance of getting elected and they are no better and will support this policy.
Oh fuck.
The only hope at the moment is that we have a lot of very smart computer nerds in Ozland, so we may be able to figure out a way around it.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
I wouldn't wory too much (I'm not in your possition but), it would be damb neer inpossable to implement. (sorry I've had some rum tonight) If they do, yes ppl will be able to fined a way around it. There is just no way to have a conection and not. Goverments hate the facted tha tyou can't realy control the internet. It is scarry what might happen if everyone can comunicat with eachather; oh my god, think about it. If everyone could talk about things...they might dicide not to be controlled by government and media...holy crap!
It's been some time frome my last "hacking windows" class, but...if nothing more; you could get a cell phone with cheep over seas calling and call a free ISP in another contry for dial up access. Just a thought without knowing what they plan to do. I still think that anything they try will easly be overcome, but then I've been hittin' the rum that I learned how to make on this site.

Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION
i know it probably wont have any effect but a "grass roots" movement against this is the only thing we can do.. i encourage any and all of use to write a letter to your local MP and express you disgust... the more who join me in a letter the better.. its the only thing we really can do
