"Depression Punch" Recipe?

Post by brantoken »

Greeting all,

I live in the US , GA to be particular. I had a great Uncle who was famous for passing on a little houch every now and then. He was quite a charater, survied the depression, the infantry in WWII and many trials and tribulations. After returning from WWII, He alway had a big party every Memorial day and pretty much invited everyone he knew, to remember his buddies that didn't make it. It was a big deal, a pig was roasted, lots of libations . If we were lucky He would have what he called " Depression Punch", It was made from good white lightening , and would knock your socks off. He was an advocate of "corn wiskey" and provide me with several samples over the years, I suppose to instruct me on what was good and what wasn't. I don't think he made the wiskey but then again , I don't think he would admit to it either. The punch tasted of lemonaid, and it was a secret formula, had several other things in it. It was high octane. He died this last year, and I never got the recipe. It wasn't sweet either like lemonade, Just a slight touch of sweetness. So it didn't give the nasty hang overs associate with sugar.

Has anybody ever heard of "Depression Punch" and can you give me a hint of what goes into it?

After what the markets have been doing and the way the ecomony has been going, It may be time for Depression Punch again.........

My aunt used to make "Miss Annabelle's Lake Eufaula Punch". Course, it t'weren't nothin' but lemonade made with gin instead of water...

Sounds kinda like what you're talkin' bout.
Purposeful motion, for one so insane...

This is a big problem. These people are dying out and if they go before we have their knowledge they take it with them. Oral tradition is an important way of transferring information so, if there are any old shiners that you even vaguely know, get to know them better and learn their secrets before they snuff it.

Many crafts, histories, customs et cetera have been lost because there was nobody to pass on to.
