Southern Haze

Post by silaflex »

I have just bought some of this essence. Its from still spirits. I assume its like southern comfort.
It says on the bottle to add 280ml sugar to 2.1 litres of alcohol at 32%.
Is this sugar liquid glucose that you get from the supermarket?
Could I use table sugar dissolved in water instead? If so how much??

Thanks

Usually just table sugar. Looks like it's calling for a strong cup. Personally can't stand sweet liquers, but to each thier own.

If the directions say to use sugar, then use sugar. If they say to use glucose, then use glucose. They generally know what's best. Did they say to add to water? Or did they say to add to 'add 280ml sugar to 2.1 litres of alcohol at 32%.' I suggest that the best thing to do is to do what they say, ie. 'add 280ml sugar to 2.1 litres of alcohol at 32%.'

The directions say use sugar. Don't say anything about adding water. 280ml of sugar would surely be in a liquid form.

What is liquid sugar? Glucose? Table sugar and water? :?

Table sugar is table sugar. 280ml comes out 1 and 3/16ths of a U.S. cup. To make it mix better, probably wouldn't hurt to disolve it in a minimal amount of water first. Anything added to the alcohol is going to reduce the ABV, so if you want to end up with more than 60 proof start with a little stronger spirit.

No, it's a metric volume measurement.

We use it instead of cups.
