SS Top Shelf Rye Whisky essance

Post by goinbroke2 »

I have some 50% UJSM that I think I cut too much so now it's only hearts and not much flavour. It came off at 75%. Anyway, I came across the aforementioned Rye Whisky essance and made up 3 750ml bottles. Well the old lady (who won't touch my "hooch") didn't know and I said I have a bottle of whisky want a drink before we go out? "Sure" she said. Had 3 or 4 good size tumblers full then we went out. Got to the Christmas party and her comment? "they sure water the drinks down here" I still haven't told her and that was last night. Tonight we're putting up the tree and she wants another drink. "Bonded stock? This is pretty good"

I'll wait until she see's the other two bottles in the cupboard and questions why I bought so much.

8/10 at least
Numerous 57L kegs, some propane, one 220v electric with stilldragon controller. Keggle for all-Grain, two pot still tops for whisky, a 3" reflux with deflag for vodka. Coming up, a 4" perf plate column. Life is short, make whisky and drag race!

lol, what do you say...

the special thing about alcohol is no matter what you try to make if it tastes like shit you can always re distilit into neutral spirit or if it has no flavour you can add it..

cheers

After going through another three 750ml bottles, the inlaws bought a bottle of Canadian club (I think it was) and we had drinks. Then the wife commented that it wasn't so strong tasting, in other words bitter or having "rye bite" etc.
"Don't buy that bonded stock anymore it's too strong flavoured." So I'm thinking of mixing it at about 2.5L or more instead of 2.25L per bottle. It will be even lighter, but hopefully not so harsh. Although, mine was 50% and CC is 40%, maybe that has something to do with it?(I thought it was fine myself)

I bought some locally made essances here and made one up last night after everybody went to bed. So far I'm not too impressed, but that was as I was mixing it and didn't have a real taste. Instead of $4.99 for SS top shelf which does 3-750ml bottles, this stuff is $3.99 but does 770ml. (why the hell would you make it for 770ml when the bottles are 750ml???)
Anyway, it's more expensive and I'm not convinced on the taste yet. I think I'll stick to SS top shelf stuff.

The extra 20ml is your 'reward'.
It is the very things that we think we know, that keep us from learning what we should know.
Valved Reflux, 3"x54" Bok 'mini', 2 liebig based pots and the 'Blockhead' 60K btu propane heat
