Got one for ya that I haven't found an answer too.
Got a cavalier. Occasionally, the back lighting on the digital odometer slowly turns to a dull red and progresses to a bright red. Doesn't seem to affect the vehicle in any way, temp isn't high or anything. Only happens on longer drives. Turn vehicle off the on again, it stays red. Turn car off and let it sit 10 min or so, and the back light is the normal color again. Even the dealer ship has no answer. Any ideas?

bushido more info needed 8th and 10th digit of vin,GM used a fluorescent back light to light odometers on some vic's,and the capillary tubes will loose there vacuum over time,you will need to replace odometer assy.sometime they can be repaired but i do not know who can do this now,your dealer may know i hope this will helpbushido wrote:Got one for ya that I haven't found an answer too.

you can buy 12 V back lighting for instrument cluster assemblies .... think of all those tuners out there who do it on a regular basis. I have 12 V fluorescent tubes for the dark light in my PC to react with the coolant in the lines and I've seen high frequency fluorescents in the back lighting of LCD displays...
GM recommended fix is cluster replacement ... can be fixed by a little electronic voodoo.
