Hog Hunting

Post by shawnboy101 »

I have been hunting feral pigs for about 3 years, and I'm completely addicted. I've hunted Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas. I've just purchased a hunt in eastern TX. I was wondering if there were any other pig hunters out there? If so, where do you go. I love to travel and I'd like to hunt as many places as possible. If anyone has found a place that they really enjoy, I'd like to hear about it!

Good excuse if the revenur shows up. "I am simply making a bait pile".

Started hog hunting with my Dad and Grandpa when I was just knee-high to a grasshopper, in the SE US.

Now I go here:

My Texas hog hunt was a huge success. I didn't think that other people's pictures of 600 lbs. monsters were real wild hogs until I saw this brute!

I've got some buddies that hunt them around here. They run 'em with dogs. When the hog gets tired, they either grab his hind legs and lead it out to the road (if it's a small hog), or they walk up on it and stick it with a Bowie. Hard core, these guys...

We get the occasional wild boar heading off to that size in the north, or used to before they (and wild buffalo) got shot out in the feral eradication program.

Feral hogs are a problem around here. They have destroyed two gardens here in the last couple of years. We shoot them (AR15) around here. Every once in a while a hunter will ask permission and most of the time I let em hunt.

Their ribs are almost useless

They sure make a good sausage mixed about half and half with vension usually with a little fat tossed in. Both the feral hogs and deer are lean meat animals here.

Down here we got a lot of hogs and a lot of biguns. Seen a couple that big. We like to put one cur dog on the ground and wait for the rucuss. Then we run in and shoot them with a bow. Talk about gettin hairy goin up against a pissed off hog with one dog and a bow.

have not hunted them, but people have been having similiar sucess on the olympic pennisula of washington - but be warned - it is a rain forest....ever since they put in the new rain gauges, they think it gets more rain than on kauai...but that just could be to keep the tourists away....
