Mauri Distillers Yeast

Post by jrickard »

I have read quite a bit about whisky production in Scotland. Almost every distillery uses Mauri Distillers Yeast.

I would love to try it. I have googled it to death but cannot find a source for this yeast. As it is apparently the most popular distillers yeast in the commercial world, I can't believe some of it isn't available via homebrew shops online.

Does anyone have a link for a source for this yeast????

The Spirit Mix is the only one I see. Sold under the name of Alcovin. From the description, it looks like a version of a turbo yeast.
It is the very things that we think we know, that keep us from learning what we should know.

i have the Mauri guidelines for making alcohol from their bread yeast and, surprise, they recommend using higher specific gravities than the ones recommended on homedistiller. the lower limit seems to be 5 baume and the average 7 Bé and the highest 13Bé :

10 k liters pH4 - 4,5 , 7 Bé
when reaching 5Bé add 12kl @ 9Bé
when reaching 5,5Bé add 16Kl @ 20Bé

Hi,
Mauri Yeasts are manufactured here in Australia on a rather large scale in Toowoomba.Queensland. In Brisbane their yeasts are supplied through Redox. 07-3268-1555. Website: http://www.redox.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. Redox has supply depots in every capital city in Australia and New Zealand. Check their website for locations, addresses and phone numbers.

hi,

I was interested in trying this alcovin, sent redox a email, they came back with:

Essencia Australia repack Alcovin into small sachets under the brand name 'Super 6'.

sounds like its distributed as a turbo yeast or equivalent.

cheers

I've used the super 6's a bit. Haven't had a problem with them. they aren't dirty like other turbos (IMHO), takes about a week. they're also good for a few generations which is nice, I just add a tablespoon of dap each time. Have one fermenter that must be on generation 5 or 6 by now. I've used them for rums as well, the product is still young but it seems that it is a smooth, clean product. I really should keep my recipes consistent so that i can compare properly
