Newby's first batch/ run

Post by Northgamtns »

Today I made my first wine ever. I used the easy balloon method, keep in mind im a beginner. And on a whim had some absolutely terrible plastic bottle vodka in my freezer, and half a bottle of champagne that had been in the fridge for about a week. I mixed em half and half and used the "jailhouse method of distillation." Needless to say I ran into so many leaks it wasnt even funny, I now know the importance of an airtightseal amongst your still. The vapors coming off of this "suicide batch" were almost unbearable. It was literally breathtaking. Just sharing my experience as a beginner's first easy attempt method. Does anyone have any pointers on the jailhouse method other than I am going to need a pressure cooker in stead of pot w/ glass lid.
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too, aint too many things these ol' boys can't do

You will find that people on these forums will not direct you on shotty methods of making poison. They will however help you on your way to making good hootch safely. First you need to read the parent site completly then with that information you will be able to make a decision as to witch way you want go and what type of still to build. It is easy to build a good still with out spending a lot of money. Welcom to heaven brother.

Not sure what the "jailhouse method" is, but leaks definitely = bad news.

Is it that "bowl in a bowl" method? That seems pointless to me.
This is so much fun it ought to be illegal..wait..never mind.

51" LM and a 24" Pot still with 62" Liebig with turbulator and spiral coolant swirler thingy. Both running on an unmodified keg with Tri-clover clamp attachment.
