my First..EVERYTHING (couple easy questions for you to)

Post by narcolepticpug »

well this isnt my first time making any kind of alcohol, but this will be my first time making a still and i allso want to learn to make some good tasting booze.
the only expirence i have is while i was in jail. i made some alcohol out of oranges, orange juice, lots of koolaid packets, water, and a trash bag. This was the greatest tasting booze i have ever had. it tasted like a screwdrive with a kick. it got me and my celly, and the guys in the cell next to mine so drunk. i pissed on the floor. my celly puked, and one of the guys in the cell next to mine pissed his pants.
about a year after i got out of jail i decided to make some more of that magic juice. i did it the exact same way. even used a trashbag. it was HORIBLE!!!!!!! and i realized that it only tasted good cuz i hadnt had anything to drink but water for a year at the time and it was the taste of freedom i liked. not the toxic orange slug.
anyways. iv turned my life around %100 sence then. i dont regret anything iv done. I chalked it up as a learning experince. now my live is better than i could ask for.

sorry for that little tidbit. now heres why im here.
iv got a batch of mash fermenting at the moment.
3 gal of water 5lbs granulated sugar in a 3 gal. plastic water jug. with ale yeast. and a home made airlock out of bent 1/4" copper pipe(i plan on geting real equipment soon. this is just a trial run)

iv got 3 questions about making a reflux still
1. whats the best way to atatch a copper pipe to a stainless lid?
2. when they talk about puting glass marbles in the colum. do they mean but a screen at the bottom of the colum and fill it up with glass marbles or do they mean somthing else?
3. where can i find recipes online to making diffrent kinds of mash?

thank you all for your time.

PS. if anyone has good ideas for a still share them with me.. i work for my uncle who has a sheetmetal and pipefitter company. ill bet i could buy copper pipe off him realy cheap. so i can make some cool stills. i donno about you but copper is expencive to me.
sadly though. i have no experince in soldering copper.... im a welder. so my first still will be my first time doing it. but iv watched some of the old guys doing it and it seems pretty strieght forward

You have a loooooong way to go grasshopper.

Start by reading EVERYTHING on the home site, and looking at pictures of stills.

I highly suggest a VM rig made from a beer keg.

Next get ya some turbo yeast, an alcoholmeter, and hydrometer from brewhaus or mile hi distilling.

You should have more of an idea as what to do then.

Words from the wise: Anyone can make gut-rot moonshine. Making good shit will not happen overnight and you certainly won't get rich doing it should you succeed! Don't think its cheap either... this hobby can get quite expensive... hell I've probably got more than a grand in all my equipment and no tellings how many hours of research invested... trust me when I say I tried all the shortcuts and it took years just build a rig capable of running azeotrope.
