Hi,
I'm using a 20quarts pot distiller to make alcohol from fruit mash (plums). The first cup that comes out I'm throwing it away (the Methanol). Everything else I keep. When I'm done with the fruit mash, all the alcohol I got, I'll distillate it again to make it nice and clear and stronger. Should I throw away again what comes out first, or the Methanol is gone (thrown away at first step)?
Here are the main questions I have:
1) Should I keep ALL the alcohol that comes out the fruits distillation and throw away the methanol only on the second distillation?
2) How much is Methanol in 20quarts pot of fruits (plums) alcohol? 1 cup? 2 cups? I want to be safe.
If you point me to a guide I will be happy.
Thanks,
-ioan

Re: Methanol in volume
You only need to throw the first 100-200 ml on a pot still away (and thats likely more than we need to but safety is better ). Throw nothing away on the first stripping run and throw the first part on the second. I would recommend reading up on the forums here about stripping and making cuts on a spirit run first.
