Time for a change?

Well, I got an old relic of a pot still that came from my uncle's place-it's something from the forties-has an aluminum boiler and the coil is the remains of an old car radiator; I am pretty sure it was a midnight special that he and his kids had a hand in. I guess it works all right, but you have to keep on top of scrubbing the aluminum out because it'll get nasty otherwise (Chalky?)

Thing is, I happen to have a pair of great big stainless pots (16 Gallon!) and I saw plans for a valve reflux outfit at: http://www.moonshine-still.com/page16.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow when I was looking at the plans to make a replacement, and wondered if it was really a good design, or if I could do better? I have run a little through the old still, but I haven't got a clue of a clue how to run the reflux-it just seemed more efficient, because everyone around here that drinks it mixes it with something else anyway.

First thing, stop usin' the old still and don't drink anythin' made with it.

The radiator was soldered with lead solder and WILL contaminate yer hooch.

Read the stickies here and you'll get a better idea of what ya need to build.

a vapour management or Bokakob liquid management would be a better choice than the valved reflux. happy reading

Lord! I hadn't even thought of that! I don't drink, but for some reason all of my cousins tell me my brew turns up better than when they make it! Go figure....
