Column packing question

I have a kit from Mile Hi. I rolled up the copper mesh and packed the column to the top for a full reflux effect. I used the handle of a spoon to push the mesh past where I could move it with my fingers. My question is how can I tell if the packing is too tight?

breathe threw it .if you can do so easily it is good.

Thanks. Just puffed through it and it felt "free". Only the slightest bit of resistance.
