how long to leave me rum??

Hi all,
i made my first small run of rum , about 2 gallon, molass, dark sugar etc, came out nice. got about 4 pint out of pot still after foreshots and tails.
i put into a large demi john (glass jar) duno what you call them else where? added some toasted oak , cup of molass and some cloves, been left alone for a few months now.
i syphoned it out to another demi john and run through some muslin to clear, added back the oak and cloves. whilst doing this had to have a little taste, all ok was nice , better than i was hopping for my first atempt.
How long should i keep it with the oak ? am i being impatient with this or do i strain , filter and bottle now??

Only way to prove to your self what you want your outcome to be, is to get enough product on hand to find your preference.

My favorite store bought sleeps for 5 years. I can't get my home made to sleep more than 3 weeks.

just as i thought, its all in the taste,
think will bottle next week as i have another batch on the go. hope to flavour next lot differently and then compare the two?

if i can leave it that long.....
